SUBJECT: John Andrews Foundation Makes Major Gift Towards Waterfront Project
WHERE: Port Arthur’s Landing, Thunder Bay, ON
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is pleased to announce the receipt of a major gift from John Andrews Foundation, in support of the development of the new Waterfront Gallery.
For over 40 years, the John Andrews Foundation has supported initiatives that enhance the well-being of Northwestern Ontario communities, with a focus on impact and making a real difference in the lives of local people. The John Andrews Foundation has distributed over $6 million in grants to more than 100 charities and non-profit organizations across the region. The Foundation has been a long time champion of the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, providing ongoing support through the “Admission Free Wednesdays” program.
The John Andrews Foundation has pledged an additional $500,000, above and beyond the previous commitment of $250,000, in capital support towards the realization of a new Thunder Bay Art Gallery at Port Arthur’s landing.
Campaign Chair, Shelley Crawford says “This level of increased funding to our Waterfront Gallery exemplifies the John Andrews Foundation’s commitment to the value and impact of this project for the region, in line with our mutual understanding of the value of exposure to the arts as an indicator of improved mental health and well-being.”
“We are deeply grateful to the John Andrews foundation for this significant commitment to the capital campaign, and the new Thunder Bay Art Gallery building at the waterfront.” Executive Director Matthew Hills stated, “The John Andrews foundation has a long-standing relationship with the art gallery through support of our free admission Wednesday, and it is a foundation that has a profound impact in our community . This commitment and their ongoing support makes a huge difference to our programs and access we can provide. I want to thank the John Andrews foundations, Board of Directors, Allan McKitrick, Don Henderson, and Alexander Paterson for this gift. We’re excited for what it means to our ongoing capital, campaign and the city of Thunder Bay”
This pledge comes after the launch of Phase 2 of the Gallery’s Community Capital Campaign. Further info on how to give can be found at theag.ca/support
