Working with local artist Gayle Church to make a pâte de verre bowl, you will get a snapshot of the lengthy production in which powdered glass of various hues is mixed, blended, and fused. You will be guided through combining colours and the technique required to pack the powdered glass into a mold. Projects will be taken away to be fused in the artist’s kiln. After cooling you can join the artist at the Gallery on Wednesday November 6th at 6:00pm for the reveal or pick up your bowl at the Gallery anytime after.
Artist Bio: Gayle attained her Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts at Lakehead University in 2016 and her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba in 2019. Her previous exhibitions include Perspectives from Here at the Thunder Bay art Gallery (2017), Contrasts and Contradictions: The Polarizing Qualities of Glass at the Living Arts Centre (2018), and En Route: Sculptural Ceramics and Glass Emerging from Manitoba (2019), at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. She has also been selected to participate in the International Biennale of Glass is Sofia, Bulgaria (2019). Currently, Gayle lives in Thunder Bay, Ontario and is still creating works that address the complex relationships that humans have with the natural world in an ever-increasing urban landscape.
