Painting Rocky Waters with Luke Nicol

Join artist Luke Nicol for an inspiring acrylic painting workshop inspired by the rugged beauty of Lake Superior’s shoreline. Drawing on decades of experience painting the landscapes of Northern Ontario and Finland, Luke will guide participants through techniques for capturing rocky textures, moving water, and the play of light on the natural world. Using provided reference images, participants will explore composition, colour, and texture while creating their own shoreline painting in a welcoming environment. All skill levels are welcome!

Artist Bio:

Raised in Thunder Bay on the shores of Lake Superior, Luke Nicol has long been inspired by the power and beauty of northern landscapes. After graduating from Lakehead University in 2003, Lake Superior became the subject of many paintings. In 2015, he relocated with his family to Turku, Finland, where the rocky coastlines and surrounding forests of the Baltic Sea offered new sources of inspiration while echoing the geological character of Northern Ontario. He continues to paint both Finnish and Canadian landscapes and returns regularly to Thunder Bay, where Lake Superior remains an enduring focus of his artistic practice.
