Making is Medicine: Kitchen Table Beading Series
You are invited
Bring your beading or craft project and a cup of tea and share in conversation via ZOOM with artist Shannon Gustafson, curators Jean and Leanna Marshall, and special guest Lisa Myers as they share a more detailed look at the Piitwewetam exhibition.
Piitwewetam: Making is Medicine is a commemorative exhibition presenting artwork by the Gustafson family, showing how beadwork and hand-made items come from an ecology of relationships and love. Their bold designs are part of a dialect of beadwork deeply rooted within Anishinaabe culture and way of being. The Gustafson’s teach us that the power of creating helps with the process of grief and loss. This exhibition honours their son and brother Piitwewetam (Rolling Thunder) also known as Jesse Gustafson.
