Clay Planters with Katie Lemieux
Clay Planters with Katie Lemieux
Sunday 10, May
1:00 – 4:00 pm
Members: $65 | Non-Members: $75
Create a uniquely shaped clay planter or vessel using solid-sculpting techniques with ceramic artist Katie Lemieux. You will shape your form using paddling, carving, and rib tools to build texture and movement, then learn how to hollow and refine your piece with attention to structural integrity and even wall thickness. Katie will demonstrate a range of surface finishes including varnishing, stippling, grog-reveal, and plastic seal, so you can choose the look that best suits your design. Each participant will complete a functional vessel that will be fired by the instructor and returned to the Gallery for pickup.
Artist Bio: Katie Lemieux is a ceramic artist from Thunder Bay, Ontario, with an Honours BFA in Ceramics from Lakehead University (2016) and an MFA from the Peck School of the Arts in Milwaukee (2019). Working full-time as both an artist and instructor, her practice explores the tactile parallels between clay and the human body, using figurative hybrids to examine non-verbal communication, emotional resonance, and the fluid boundary between inner and outer experience. Her work is further informed by her role as a Support Worker for non-verbal youth, deepening her exploration of connection, vulnerability and embodied expression.
