Make your first animation, or push your creative skills in a new direction!

Join artist Chantal Rousseau for a fun, hands-on workshop, where you will create a short animation from scratch. In just one afternoon, you will learn the fundamentals of movement, pacing, framing, and visual storytelling, then choose the style that suits you:

Analog: Flipbook Animation

Experiment with drawing, mark-making, and sequencing to build a dynamic flipbook you can hold in your hands.

Digital: Animated GIF

Use a free, easy-to-use online tool to turn your drawings into your very own animated GIF. Bring your own device or use one of the Gallery’s Samsung tablets.

Whether you love drawing or storytelling, this workshop lets you turn any subject that inspires you into motion. You will leave with a completed animation and the skills to continue creating on your own.

Artist Bio: Chantal Rousseau is an artist based in Dawson City in the Yukon, on the traditional territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. Her practice is informed by a bioregional focus, using embodied experience and research to learn about specific ecosystems. She creates animations, GIFs, watercolours, and audio works. She co-founded the animation studio Starlight Sojourn Studios with artist Darcy Tara McDiarmid; their collaborative practice is focused on nature and conservation-based animation projects. https://www.starlightsojournstudio.com/
