The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is thrilled to announce the second Aanikoobijganag: Thunder Bay Beading Symposium. Following the overwhelming success of the inaugural event last year in Thunder Bay, we are busy as beaders…or…beavers, planning a second event from October 15 – 18, 2025, in Thunder Bay.
Tickets will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please watch our Instagram, Facebook, and website for ticket sale information and event updates.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
About the event: In 2024, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery presented the first-ever beading symposium in Northern Ontario. Working together with Anemki Art Collective, including artist and hide tanner Jean Marshall, this 3-day event brought together international artists, speakers and curators to celebrate the joy of beading. This gathering is designed for you to have fun, learn new skills, level up knowledge and techniques, and relax, while connecting with professional beaders, researchers, artists, curators, and other makers. This event highlights the rich talent of beading and craft practices in our region, including artists from Fort William First Nation, with 2025 reaching further and farther. This event won the Galleries Ontario Public Programming event of 2025, with overwhelming feedback from all participants, workshop leaders, and everyone who contributed to the success of this event for the Gallery to plan another one!
