Join Thunder Bay artist Denise Smith for a mixed-media workshop that transforms landscape drawing into a dimensional work of art. Using papercasting, layering techniques, and a variety of materials including vellum, rice paper, watercolour, chalk pastel, and pencil crayon, participants will create atmospheric landscapes that blur the line between two and three dimensions. Guided through composition, depth, and storytelling, you will build a unique layered artwork inspired by the relationship between natural and imagined spaces. Suitable for all skill levels.

Artist Bio:

Denise Smith is a contemporary Canadian visual artist working in the mediums of sculpture, ceramics, drawing and painting. Living and working in Thunder Bay, Smith is influenced by the proximity of wilderness in the city and the resulting tension between natural and urban environments. Her work explores the complex ways human culture shapes our understanding of nature, revealing tensions between viewing nature as an expendable resource and recognizing our interconnectedness within it. Smith is a graduate of the University of Regina’s Master of Fine Arts program (2016) and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Lakehead University (2010).
