The Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s Creative Ageing initiative aims to engage seniors in meaningful, arts-based activities that foster social inclusion, emotional well-being, and community connection. Creative Ageing welcomes diverse senior communities and provides accessible workshops and events. Watercolour Botanical Illustrations
Thursday, 3 September – Thunder Bay Art Gallery
As Summer comes to a close, there is still time to stop and smell the roses. While you are at it, why not fit in a quick painting in too? Step into the serene world of botanical art in this workshop dedicated to capturing the beauty of plants through illustration. Explore the delicate details of leaves, stems, and blooms as you learn foundational drawing techniques, composition, and rendering with the versatile medium of watercolour pencils.
Gel Plate Monoprinting
Thursday 1, October – Thunder Bay Art Gallery
Gel plate monoprinting is a process for creating one-of-a-kind prints. After rolling ink onto a soft plastic plate, you can draw designs with Q-tips, transfer images from magazines, use patterned templates, or add texture with natural materials. Once you transfer your design onto paper, you can continue layering over your dried print to create rich and unique compositions. This is the perfect workshop to explore and reflect on process-based art.
Archival Collage
Thursday 5, November – North McIntyre Community Centre)
Celebrate textures, colours, and rhythms in this hands-on collage workshop. Use a mixture of patterned paper, found images, and drawing tools to create your own layered compositions. Get inspired by the themes and stories hidden between the pages of magazines. We encourage you to bring your own materials, but it is not necessary to join in on the fun!
Creative Ageing Arts Fair & In-Gallery Drawing Session

Join us in celebrating a year of engaging community programming! The Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s Creative Ageing program offered a series of free workshops for seniors throughout 2026, supporting social inclusion, well-being, and the positive impacts of the arts.
Whether you participated in our program, volunteered, or are simply curious about what we do, everyone is welcome at the Creative Ageing Arts Fair. Admission is free!
