Lecture by Carmela Langanse Today at 7:30pm

1000 Miles Apart Conference:

The 1000 Miles Apart Conference was first organized in 1989 by faculty and students from the University of Manitoba and Red Deer College in Alberta, hence the name: 1000 Miles Apart. Today, it includes four institutes in Western Canada, providing an excellent opportunity for artists to network and share ideas. The conference presents a series of exhibitions, artists’ demonstrations, and presentations.

The 2016 conference is being organized by the Visual Arts Department at Lakehead University.  The conference will kick-off with keynote lecture at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery by artist Carmela Langanse on Thursday September 29 at 7:30pm.

“Carmela Laganse received her BFA at the University of Manitoba and her MFA at Ohio University. She has worked, taught and exhibited in Canada, Europe and the US.

The perception of real experience, fantasy, and play are Carmela’s ongoing interests — more particularly the intersection of meanings garnered from pop culture, familiar objects, hierarchy, language, and childhood.”
