Textile art from Manitoba artist, Katrina Craig, whose work investigates hidden lives, vulnerability and heartbreak. Using donated objects, Craig examines the universal emotions of grief and loss recognizing that time and space are part of the process of understanding.
Katrina Craig received a BFA from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a concentration in Textiles. Her work has a focus on process, often integrating alternate materials and traditional textile processes.
(Funded through a partnership with the Manitoba Arts Network).

“I’m sentimental with objects. I keep things that were important to me (whether happy or sad memories are attached) and I feel guilty throwing them away. I’ve been thinking about how to honour the heartbreak objects and give them another life. I’ve been taking apart the objects I can’t part with, and transforming them into work that expresses the experience through the object.
The physical labour of taking the objects apart is akin to the emotional process of grief and closure. This process allows me time to reflect on the experiences that have lead to grief, loss, heartbreak, growth and change. I’ve invited others to donate their heartbreak objects to this project to participate in reclaiming their vulnerable experiences, and building a place for viewers to relate and connect with other people’s trauma and heartbreak.”
