re(Creating the Self): an Arts Program for People Living with Dementia
“(re)Creating the Self: an Arts Program for People with Dementia” – showing from February 16 to April 2 – has been ongoing at the Gallery since September of 2016. The Art Gallery is pleased to be partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay, Lakehead University’s Centre for Education and Research on Aging and Health (CERAH), and with local artist Eleanor Albanese. The project partners and participants would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for funding this enriching program. The purpose of this research is to explore the experiences, meanings, and impacts of an art program for people living with dementia.
One of our favourite quotes from a program participant is: “It’s like the sun coming up. And anytime you look at it, it’s going to be a good day“; which really captures the essence of the program that has been so positive for those involved.
Join us on February 23rd from 6:30-8:00pm for an Opening Reception where you will be provided an opportunity to view the artwork and hear more about the enriching program.
