Mindful Expressions | My Mind, My Art

January 12 – February 12

Opening Reception: Thursday January 12, 6:45pm

The Thunder Bay Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force (TBYSPTF) presents “Mindful Expressions”; an exhibit showcasing the vibrant and expressive artwork of local youth and established artists, who, together, teamed up and explored the topic of mental wellness. Guided by a series of focus group questions, youth in Thunder Bay and the district explored and expressed their thoughts and beliefs about what mental wellness, community connectedness, and good mental health means to them. The project was guided by four established artists, all with specialties in different art forms. From acrylic painting to multimedia and watercolour to beadwork, youth were given the opportunity to learn not only one medium, but several.

Mentor artists working with youth on this project include: Janelle Wawia,  Derek Khani, Pamela Cain and Shaun Hedican. Supporters of the project include Children’s Centre Foundation Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, as well as the following community partners who assisted in the creation of this exhibit: Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and Community Arts and Heritage in Education Project.
